Why Hydrogen Matters So Much For Your Body

Hydrogen isn’t just the most common element found in our universe — it’s also a major part of the human body. By weight, it’s the third most prominent component of us (following oxygen and carbon). While it’s not readily available in our environment in gaseous form, that’s exactly how it manifests in our bodies, helping each of our cells run like well-oiled machines.

For example, hydrogen bonds are responsible for providing that unique twist in our DNA chains. Hydrogen also plays a key role in the metabolism of cells all throughout our bodies, from the heart to the liver to our calf muscles.

How Hydrogen Helps Your Metabolism

When most people hear the word “metabolism,” they first think about the body’s ability to burn energy efficiently in a weight and dietary sense. But we’re talking even more micro than that. Each individual cell has to perform their own metabolic processes to convert energy sources into a usable form as well as eliminate waste.

When cell metabolisms aren’t functioning at their best, the body can experience uncomfortable side effects like inflammation and lactic acid build-up. But when they are on their “A game,” we feel energetic and ready to conquer the world.

Hydrogen gas, which is produced within these cells, is the catalyst that drives effective energy conversion as well as efficient waste elimination. A 2007 study published in the scientific journal Nature found that hydrogen is such a therapeutic antioxidant because of how it selectively reduces free radicals that are most harmful to living cells. When your body is making enough hydrogen gas (or you’re consuming in hydrogen gas-infused water form to give your cells a boost), your cell metabolism can provide all of its much-needed protective functions.

Why Hydrogen Improves Exercise

Another small pilot study completed in 2012 and published in the journal Medical Gas Research also found that the additional consumption of hydrogen gas (via a hydrogen gas-infused water) before exercise helped elite male athletes stave off muscle fatigue during bouts of intense exercise.

This research further supports that a supply of hydrogen gas to the cell metabolism can help to reduce the lactic acid build-up commonly produced when the muscles in the body are put under serious stress.

How Hydrogen Keeps Your Body Healthy and Safe

And there’s more where that came from. In 2015, researchers reviewed more than 300 existing scientific articles on molecular hydrogen and how it impacts the human body. The conclusions of the review further supported the ability of hydrogen gas to mitigate the harmful effects of free radicals that encroach on all cells at some point or another.

So there you have it. Hydrogen, the tiniest molecule in our known world, plays a major role in not only creating the human body, but also in providing us with a much healthier existence!
